Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday urged the world to condemn “pseudo-referendums” as Kremlin plenipotentiaries began voting on Russia annexing Moscow-occupied areas of Ukraine.
“The world will respond to pseudo-referendums with full justice – they will be unequivocally condemned,” Zelensky said in his daily address to the nation.
Four provinces in Ukraine controlled in whole or in part by Russia – Donetsk and Lugansk to the east and Kherson and Zaporizhia to the south – agree to be annexed by Moscow.
The ballots have been dismissed as a “sham” by Kiev and its Western allies.
