In his very first attempt, Neeraj had registered a throw of 89.08m and this was enough to help him finish first in the Lausanne Diamond League. None of the other participants came close to this throw and the Czech Jakub Vadlejch finished second with a best effort of 85.88m. Curtis Thompson from the USA finished third and as a result this was the first time an Indian took first place in Diamond League Meet.

The Lausanne Diamond League game marked Chopra’s return from the injury he sustained at the ETN Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
The injury prevented him from defending his Commonwealth Games title in Birmingham.
However, he dominated the field in Lausanne and comfortably took first place.
After his throw of 89.08m, Chopra followed with a second attempt of 85.18m.
With none of his competitors throwing better than even his second try, Chopra skipped the third pitch.
His fourth pitch was unfortunately a wrong pitch.
He also skipped his next delivery, while Vadlejch recorded his best delivery in the fifth round.
Chopra threw 80.04 m on his last attempt and smiled shyly, knowing he had almost secured first place.
