1 dead in deadly shooting in Oakland after fatal incident on Friday


OAKLAND — Just over 12 hours after a particularly violent night in Oakland, police were investigating a deadly shooting that killed a male victim Saturday morning, authorities said.

The Oakland Police Department received a call about a person being shot on the 600 block of Sycamore Street off I-980 and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, just before 9:30 a.m. Arriving officers found an adult male Oakland resident suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

According to police, the victim succumbed to his injuries and died at the scene.

Oakland detectives have launched an investigation into the shooting. Police have not identified the victim and have not provided any information about suspects or a possible motive.

The shooting happened the morning after a deadly incident Friday night just blocks away on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. That incident left three people killed in a shooting and a crash.

Police said shots were fired in Martin Luther King Jr.’s 2800 block shortly after 7 p.m. way. When officers arrived, they found two people with fatal gunshot wounds – one of them in a car.

Investigators say it appears the car was trying to escape the gunfire, hitting and killing a cyclist who happened to be driving by.
